The Drexel Lighting Lab objective is to develop technologies for the indoor environment that can both improve health outcomes and conserve energy. Our vision is that mimicking daylight using electric light sources that match natural lighting levels and color temperature throughout the day can help synchronize natural cycles of the human body to improve human health and wellbeing. The combination of both wavelength and timing is the most important factor for a biological effect. Further, an energy efficient lighting program can be developed for the 24 hour/7 day per week facility by using low-energy LED and OLED lighting technologies. The goal is to transform institutional energy use by providing a more sustainable, energy-conserving model for indoor illumination.
